THE RULE MOST PEOPLE MISS

Volume fills it. Weight maxes it out first.

This is where $100–$200 overage fees come from. Here’s how to avoid them.

Every container has two limits — how much it holds by volume (cubic yards) and how much it holds by weight (tons). Most people only think about volume.

If you’re loading light material — furniture, drywall, household goods — you’ll hit the volume limit first and the container looks full.

If you’re loading heavy material — concrete, shingles, dirt, tile — you can hit the weight limit when the container is only half full. That’s the overage charge nobody expects.

Tell us your heaviest material when you call. We put you in the right container so you pay exactly what we quoted — nothing more.

🏗️
Concrete / Dirt / Brick

Very heavy — always needs a smaller container or partial fill. Pure concrete loads max out a 10-yard at half capacity.

🏠
Roofing Shingles

One square (100 sqft) = ~350 lbs. A 20-yard handles most standard residential roofs cleanly.

🛋️
Household Goods

Very light — a 10-yard holds a full house of furniture without hitting weight limits.

🌱
Yard Debris

Light when dry, heavy when wet. Tell us your debris type and we’ll adjust the spec accordingly.

FREQUENTLY ASKED — SIZING QUESTIONS

Common questions we answer on every sizing call.

What size dumpster do I need for a roofing project?
A single-layer tear-off on 1,500–2,000 sqft typically needs a 20-yard ($350). Two layers or a larger home usually needs a 30-yard ($430). Call us — we’ll size it exactly in 2 minutes.
What size for a full estate or house cleanout?
Most 3-bedroom home cleanouts fit a 20-yard ($350). A large or heavily furnished home, or one with garage and attic contents, usually needs a 30-yard ($430).
Can I mix heavy and light materials?
Yes — we spec the container based on your heaviest material. A mix of furniture and some drywall is very different from a mix of furniture and concrete. Tell us everything going in.
What happens if I go over the weight limit?
Overage fees apply per ton over the limit. We size to prevent this — when you tell us your material on the call, we build in the right margin so you don’t get surprised on pickup day.
